What is Pediatric Occupational Therapy?
Pediatric occupational therapy focuses on helping children achieve independence in the day to day activities of their lives. This can involve strengthening fine-motor skills that can be used in activities such as writing, cutting, shoe-tying, and using utensils. Occupational therapists can offer children with various special needs positive, fun activities to improve their cognitive, physical, and motor skills, therefore enhancing their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. An occupational therapist can evaluate a child's skills for play activities, school performance, and activities of daily living and compare them with what is developmentally appropriate for that age group. |
